At first glance the brief for the refurbishment of Wynn’s cellar door seemed a bit like a vintage cab-sav – complex, filled with variety, but also a little dry. All that changed once Arterial began designing. During the research phase of the project, a historic book about the Wynn’s Estate was unearthed. This treasure explored the winery’s heritage through a series of delightful woodcut engravings which were cut by the same man who created the original woodcut label.
Given the strict branding restrictions that the team were designing to, this find was too good to ignore. Arterial tracked down the writer-artist – 93 year old Tate Adams – and he granted them permission to use his artwork. This then became the basis of an entire exhibition that included contemporary display techniques, interactive projections, touch screen video production and of course, the story of Tate and his wood-cut engravings.
