Marysville Heart

Murrindndi Shire Council - In collaboration with Urban Initiatives

On February 7th 2009 Marysville was devastated by the Black Saturday bushfires.

Arterial were contracted to develop a new ‘heart’ to the township. To bring, quite literally, a ‘heart’ back to the devastated township through the design of a town centre that embraces the past and present.

The process of bringing together heritage stories and focusing on the strength of the people, the beauty of the forests and the changing face of the township, renewed hope to the still grieving community. It was the process that was as valuable as the end product.

We allowed the stories to speak for themselves and through chosen words, poems and images, the story of the town is woven through the very fabric of the new centre of Marysville.

This project was done in collaboration with Urban Initiatves Landscape Design whose sensitive landscape design created the canvas on which the communities stories could be told.
