Arterial, Interpretative and interactive Design
Opened in March 2020 alongside the Ship Playground, the Cave Playground was a highly-interactive and interpretive response to reflect Qatar's natural geographical and geological history, the eroded caverns (or dahl) which lie just beneath the earth. Creative a mystical and eye-capturing enclosed playspace required creative uses of light and shadow which captured subtle interpretive elements of animals, textures and text. Selectively-illuminated, these created a play area for children and adults that was unique to Qatar and its landscape.
Arterial collaborated closely with lead consultants TCL and all sub-consultants from engineers to lighting designers, throughout all design phases. Arterial also met with the Curators at the National Museum of Qatar on-site in Doha on 3 separate occasions to workshop ideas and approaches to the material. Integration of Museum content was paramount to everything we designed.
