Opened in December 2022, the Energy Playground at the National Museum of Qatar is a world-first outdoor playground which showcases Qatar's natural energy sources and the step-by-step processes by which they are obtained, refined and utilised to benefit us. Featuring an interlinked arrangement of 15 thermally-insulated 'pods', floating above a highly-interactive waterplay area, each pod describes a specific stage in the energy refinement process and educates visitors through a dazzling array of mechanical interactives. Didactic and interpretive text, delivered in both Arabic and English, describe the impact of energy on the development of Qatar and its future of renewable energies.
Children and adults alike can foster skills of teamwork as they work together on activating interactive games, acting as 'miniature molecules'. Arterial worked very closely with lead consultants TCL to bring to life the interiors of all pods, as well as the extensive graphic design required for all supergraphics and artwork across the playground. We wish to acknowledge also the dedicated work of fabricators Hüttinger in Germany and Sertek in Turkey which required Arterial to work across four countries and timezones simultaneously.
